IBM 3590 Tape Subsystems 

The 3590 1/2 inch cartridge tape drive is a rack mounted unit that provides up to 17 MB/second sustained data rate and up to 10 GB capacity per cartridge. The IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3590 Model B11 is the rack- mountable model that includes a 10-cartridge Automatic Cartridge Facility (ACF) that can be used in a random access mode as a mini-library.

Up to four 3590 Model B11 Tape Drives can be installed in a rack, thus reducing the floor space required. The ACF can be quickly loaded with a new magazine. This model includes an integrated SCSI-3 controller with two ports that support a 16-bit, fast-and-wide, Ultra SCSI differential interface.

It can also be mounted in an IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive Frame 3590 Model A14 with the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Controller 3590 Model A60 for non-library attachment to ESCON or FICON channels. The 3590 Model B11 tape drive is 128 track drive with a 9 MB/second native data rate (with compression up to 27 MB/second sustained data rate).

The IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive 3590 Model E11 is the rack- mountable model that includes a 10-cartridge Automatic Cartridge Facility (ACF) that can be used in a random access mode as a mini-library. Up to four 3590 Model E11 Tape Drives can be installed in a rack, thus reducing the floor space required.

The ACF can be quickly loaded with a new magazine. This model can be ordered with either an integrated SCSI-3 controller with two ports that support a 16-bit, fast-and-wide, Ultra SCSI differential interface or a dual ported Fibre Channel attachment interface.

It can also be mounted in an IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Drive Frame 3590 Model A14 with the IBM TotalStorage Enterprise Tape Controller 3590 Model A60 for non-library attachment to ESCON and FICON channels. The 3590 Model E11 Tape Drive has a 14 MB/second native data rate (with compression up to 40 MB/second sustained data rate with Fibre Channel).

The M8100, Fujitsu's 128-track 3590 series 1/2 inch cartridge tape drive is a new generation tape drive to meet the critical mission data environment needs for high speed, large capacity and full compatibility with IBM 3590 Magstar.

The M8100 128 track drives transfer rate (13.5MB/s Native) will be 4.5 MB/s faster than IBM 3590 Magstar (9.0 MB/s Native). In addition, the M8100 boasts a Mean-Time-Between-Failure (MTBF) rating of 100,000 hours, among the highest quality in the industry.
